Salon 21: Meet John Kameel Farah
SoundMakers Composer in Residence

Friday, March 21, 2014 7:30 pm

Gardiner Museum, 111 Queen's Park, Toronto (Canada)

John Kameel Farah exemplifies a new paradigm for composers. His music is a mixture of multiple different genres and idioms coupled to the ingredients of an idiosyncratic compositional style. His work is infused with a sense of discovery and innovation as well as a level of homage to earlier practices and traditional styles of western and non-western classical traditions.

For the last few months John Farah has been composing, not as he would normally in isolation, but in full view of our online SoundMakers audience. He’s written posts along the way of the work translating his process of composition into an incredibly vital document of a composer at work. This Salon presents Farah in discussion and the world premiere of his new work for piano and electronics.

Salon 21 presentations are free of charge, but seating is limited, and is provided on a first come, first serve basis. Due to registrant no-shows in the past, a limited number of seats are now available for reservation by pay-what-you-can donation. There is a maximum of two tickets per registrant.

Salon registration is open approximately six weeks before each event date. Please look for an email from Soundstreams announcing that registration is open. Due to high demand, we recommend registering well in advance.

Doors open at 7:00 pm
Events start at 7:30 pm and last approximately one hour

We encourage you to come early to enjoy free access to the Gardiner Museum`s galleries on the night of the salon. The Gardiner Bistro also operates prior to and during the salon, where you can choose from a range of options including a full dinner or drinks and light snacks.

Salon 21 is presented in partnership with the Gardiner Museum.
